The Weck of the Delaware

Many years ago there was a big storm. Huria looked out of her window and in the distance she saw the Delaware in trouble. She ran to Hemi. She screamed in fright. They ran to Hohepata. They explained so they ran down to the beach. Henry swam with the rope. “Oww,” went Henry. He got smashed on the rocks. The sailors put Henry in a bunk. Huria swam to the rope and swam to shore. They lit a fire to warm up the sailors. When everyone was off the ship they were amazed to see Henry but the Delaware sunk.

The heroes got a gold or silver watch.

How the Kiwi Lost its Wings

Lots of years ago all the birds were different. Kiwi was up in the trees. Tui had no white thing on his throat. Pukeko didn’t like water at all. Morepork was awake all day. One day there was a plague of bugs. Tane Mahuta tried to get the birds to kill the plague but Kiwi did. He lived on the ground for the rest of his life.
Tane Mahuta said to Morepork, “Go and live in the dark forest.” “Pukeko go and get your feet wet.” “Tui I will now put a white thing on your throat,” and everybody lived happily ever after.
